Our Story

About the Online Newsletter

Our vibrant technical community of more than 100,000 professionals is dedicated to transforming breakthroughs in quantum physics into the devices, systems and products we use in our daily lives. From ubiquitous and inexpensive global communications via fiber optics, to lasers for medical and other applications, to flat-screen displays, to photovoltaic devices for solar energy, to LEDs for energy-efficient illumination, there are myriad examples of the society’s impact on the world around us.

IEEE Photonics Newsletter will be published bi-monthly in print until December 2022 and will then covert to an online format moving forward. This website should serve as a communication channel for Society news and community activities in the field of photonics. It will reflect the print Newsletter bi-monthly and current articles will be posted regularly.

Background Information

The IEEE Photonics Newsletter Editors acquire most articles by connecting with leaders, labs and research centers. Chapters, Members, Sister Societies and Community Partners are also encouraged to submit articles directly. We welcome all contributions. Submitted articles will then be assigned an Editor and be reviewed for inclusion.

The IEEE Photonics Society is the professional home for an international network of scientists, engineers and leading innovators who represent the laser, optoelectronics and photonics community. Our community explores how technology drives industry and impacts modern society and business – both today and tomorrow – through light-based science.

IEEE Photonics also provides its members with professional growth opportunities, publishes journals, organizes conferences and supports local chapter and student activities globally.
