In preparation of its 40th anniversary in 2023, JLT announces the switch of all its prestigious award-winning papers to fully open access (OA)

 Effective immediately, all past, current, and future JLT Best Paper Award winners will be open access (OA) and available to all without any cost to readers or authors. JTL follows a hybrid model allowing authors to publish the traditional way (behind a paywall) or OA. Articles in JLT that are OA are more highly cited and receive significantly more downloads than those papers that are not. The transition of these prestigious JLT award winning papers to OA will provide a chance for these manuscripts to reach a new audience in recognition of the journal’s upcoming 40th anniversary in 2023.

Established in 1983, the IEEE/Optica Publishing Group Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT) is a semi-monthly journal sponsored by seven IEEE Technical Societies and co-published by IEEE and Optica Publishing Group. It specializes in all aspects of optical guided-wave science, technology, and engineering.  The JLT Best Paper Award is given annually to the top cited original paper published in the journal a few years prior to the award being given.
