The IEEE Learning Network (ILN) is an online platform designed for the discovery of continuing education across IEEE. ILN provides you the ability to search through IEEE’s hundreds of educational offerings and earn digital certificates. IEEE Photonics Society members are encouraged to utilize this continuing education resource!

ILN offer the following Photonics-Related Courses and Webinars:

  • LED/Laser Sources & Applications
  • Fiber Optics & Communication Systems
  • Photonic Integrated Circuits, Integration, & Packaging
  • Telecommunications & Wireless Technology

All course material on ILN is available online. The courses vary in length, including 1 hour, full day, and multi-module course programs. Both free (with IEEE membership and/or Society membership) and paid content available.

eLearning Course Program: 5G Networks

Produced in cooperation with Nokia, ILN also offers a “5G Networks” course program. Learners will receive an in-depth view of performance requirements, future scenarios, and the roadmap to implementation of 5G. The program also explores the intricacies of 5G standardization by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee.

eLearning Course Program:
Finite Element Method for Photonics

Enjoy the flexibility of online learning with this IEEE Photonics Society sponsored eLearning Course Program on “Finite Element Method for Photonics” on the IEEE Learning Network (ILN). This program starts with Maxwell’s equations and explains the basic principles of numerical modelling and the key assumptions involved. Following a brief tour of the mathematics behind FEM, the discussion moves to the ways in which the method can be applied to various optical devices.

Each course contains a list of questions and additional resources such as academic papers, key organizations, among others, for participants to review prior to starting the next course. Participants will also receive printable IEEE CEU or PDH certificates upon successful completion of each eLearning Course.
